KLRU KIDS Writers Contest

Check back soon for 2018 Writers Contest information!

The KLRU KIDS Writers Contest is a local contest this year designed to promote the advancement of children’s writing skills through hands-on, active learning. Children in kindergarten through third grade are encouraged to write and illustrate stories and submit them to KLRU, which will then select winners and award prizes on May 13, 2017. All entries will be published on KLRU’s website. This is not a national contest.

KLRU Education department is currently downloading, scanning and uploading all the wonderful stories we received in the 2017 PBS KIDS Writers contest. Each day there will be new stories available to read and share with friends and family. If your child’s story needs further editing, please contact Mary Alice Appleman at 512-475-9051 or maappleman@klru.org.

Judging will start about the 3rd week of April and conclude May 5, 2017. Winners will be notified the week of May 8th by phone and the online stories will have a ribbon attached to indicate 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.

The winner celebration is scheduled to occur Saturday, May 13 from 11:30am – 1pm at Ruiz Public Library. All children who entered the contest are welcome with an RSVP.

The previous years contest submissions will be back online soon.
